Randolph-Macon College's upstart Yellow Jackets completed their surprising run to the 2008 ODAC baseball championship on Sunday by slipping past Virginia Wesleyan 4-2 at City Stadium. The victory gave the Jackets (25-15) their first ODAC title since 1987 and their third overall. Virginia Wesleyan (26-14-1), a six-time ODAC champion, finished as runner-up for the second time since the Marlins joined the league in 1989.

Sunday's ODAC title game was tied at 2-all going into the top of the eighth inning when the Jackets' Greg Meleski took two bases on a Marlin fielding error. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Charlie Hartt doubled to right center. A Michael Wallace single moved Hartt to third and a single from Jeff Beck scored Hartt to give R-MC a 4-2 lead before Virginia Wesleyan pitcher Chris Deanes retired the side with back-to-back strikeouts. It was all the Jackets needed to help pull out the win as the Marlins managed only a walk in the bottom of the eighth and fell 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth.

Trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, Trinity (Texas) scored four times to rally and defeat Millsaps 6-5 in the championship game of the 2008 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament played at Gary Wright Field in Danville, Ky. The two teams, which met in the first game of the tournament, played scoreless baseball until the fourth inning. Tait Hendrix singled to start the inning and then Hunter Owen hit his third home run of the day, a two-run shot, to give Millsaps a 2-0 lead. The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the inning when Steven Ramos hit a two-run double to centerfield to tie the game at two apiece. A Will Hawkins home run in the eighth and a Hunter Abrams solo shot in the ninth gave the Majors a 5-2 advantage in the final frame.

Trinity opened the bottom of the ninth with a single by Ramos and a walk to pinch hitter Dominick Robusto. Abrams was then brought into pitch. A fielder's choice gave the Tigers runners at first and third with one out. Logan Spiers had a pinch hit grounded out to cut the lead to 5-3. Kevin Jackson then singled to put runners at first and third again. A single by Dylan Early plated another run and the score was 5-4 with runners on first and second and two outs. Stosh Hoover then hit a 2-2 pitch to right center to score two runs, including the winning-run scoring on a close play at the plate to give Trinity the conference championship.

Saint Joseph's (25-13) defeated top seed Suffolk (25-10), 6-5, in the GNAC Championship game on Sunday at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH. The conference title secures a bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament, the Monks' third consecutive berth. Starting pitcher Pat Moran allowed 5 hits and struck out 4 in 7.2 strong innings against the Rams to pick up his fourth win and Andrew Keirstead tossed 1.1 innings in relief to notch his second save of the season. Luke Enman, Ben Grant-Roy and Todd Keneborus all had two hits apiece and Enman hit his seventh home run of the year, a solo shot in the eighth, in the victory. Enman, Moran and Wade Oliver were all named to the All-Tournament Team and Keirstead was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player.
