Worcester State wins the MASCAC with a 9-4 victory over Westfield State.
Worcester State snapped a 4-4 tie with a four-run, seventh-inning uprising in a 9-4 victory over Westfield State in the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference baseball tournament championship game. Worcester State, 23-16 and riding a nine-game winning streak, earns and automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Lancers also claimed tournament titles in 2002 and 2005. Westfield State, the 2007 tournament champion and 2008 regular season co-champion with Worcester, is 22-15-1. Despite being out-hit 14-6, the Owls - the designated visiting team - held a 4-3 lead after six and a half innings. Several of Worcester's five errors helped contribute to two unearned Westfield runs.

Trailing 4-1 heading to the bottom of the ninth, Johns Hopkins rallied for a 5-4 victory over Haverford in the Centennial Conference Championship game on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays (33-5) won their second straight Championship and ninth overall. Hopkins earns the Centennial Conference's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament with the win.

Catholic (26-13-1) overcame adversity this past weekend to win the Landmark Conference Championship by defeating the Scranton (26-16), 16-7, in the deciding game. The Cardinals beat both the first and second seeds earlier in the tourney to then face fourth-seeded Scranton coming out of the loser's bracket. The Landmark does not have an automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs and all conference teams will have to wait until May 11th to see if any school will get an invitation.

Senior Matt Vitalone went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored and senior Mike Zaccardo was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored as Cortland defeated Brockport, 12-5, to capture the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament title. The nationally second-ranked Red Dragons won their fourth straight league title, their 16th in the last 18 years and their 27th overall, the most of any school. Cortland (36-3) earned an NCAA Division III tournament automatic berth and will make its 16th straight appearance at nationals, the longest active streak in Division III. The Red Dragons most likely will play in an NCAA regional at Falcon Park in Auburn May 14-18.

Jason Pizzoferrato won his eighth game of the season without a loss as third-seeded Western New England College posted a 6-4 victory over fourth-seeded Wentworth in the championship game of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Baseball Tournament Sunday afternoon (May 4) at Trelease Park. The Golden Bears, who posted a perfect 4-0 record in the playoffs, will receive an automatic invitation to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third straight year. This is Western New England College’s inaugural first season in CCC after capturing the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament title the last two seasons. Coach Matt LaBranche’s squad now has a 31-11 record after running its winning streak to nine games.

DeSales scored 13 runs against the Valiant pitchers as Manhattanville was defeated in the 2008 Freedom Conference Championship game by the Bulldogs 13-5 Sunday at Quakertown Memorial Park. The Valiants struck first in the top of the first but the Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the first, getting the run back and three more to take a 4-1 lead after one. The Bulldogs poured it on in the bottom of the second, scoring twice more on RBI doubles from Zac Hess and Scott Matejicka. Manhattanville would chip away at the DeSales lead but DeSales would put the game out of reach with five runs heading into the ninth. In the ninth, the Valiants scored four runs, but it wasn’t enough as DeSales celebrated as the 2008 Freedom Conference champions.

Mount Saint Vincent team forced the play back game in the Skyline Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon, but was downed in the second game by Farmingdale State for the Skyline Championship. The Dolphins forced the second game with a 1-0 win in the game one, but were downed by the Rams 8-4 in the second game. Senior Eddie Park drove in the game winner after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
