Alex Gallan earned his first victory of the year and Alex Garcia notched his first career save as Chicago closed out the home portion of its schedule with an 8-4 win over North Central Tuesday at J. Kyle Anderson Field.

After giving up two runs in the opening inning, Gallan held North Central to just one run over the next four frames. In five innings of work, he yielded six hits and two walks while striking out three.

In his longest outing of the year, Garcia allowed one run on five hits in the game's final four innings. He walked a pair and fanned two as the Maroons won for the 12th time in their last 14 outings.

Trailing 3-1, Chicago scored three runs in the bottom of the third and maintained the lead the rest of the way. Tom Gonzalez's two-out base hit plated Zach Osman with what proved to be the winning run.

Stephen Williams belted a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the seventh to account for the Maroons' final runs of the game.

Kyle Schmitt went 3-for-4 to lead a 13-hit Chicago attack. Marshall Oium went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.

Tyler Herman took the loss for North Central. Matt Abraham had three hits in four at-bats with three RBIs on the day.

In other action: Marietta put the finishing touches on its regular season with a doubleheader split at regional foe Thiel Tuesday afternoon. The Tomcats rallied for a 9-8 win in the opener, and the Pioneers turned the tables with a 5-4, eight-inning victory in the nightcap. Both teams head into their respective conference tournaments with a 27-13 record.

Washington & Jefferson concluded its regular season with a 5-3 victory against Frostburg State on Tuesday evening at Ross Memorial Park. The victory elevated the Presidents' record to 29-11 on the season, while also finishing in first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a record of 13-5. The Presidents will face either Grove City or Waynesburg in the PAC tournament.

Michael Mahay pitched five innings of two-hit ball and combined with five Cortland relievers to shut out Hamilton, 7-0, under the lights at Delutis Field. The Red Dragons improved to 30-12 with the victory. Cortland has won at least 30 games each of the last five seasons and 15 times in 16 years.

Shawn Gilblair cracked a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning off the first pitch he saw from Roger Williams relief pitcher Ryan Willette, and Eastern Connecticut State went on to a 13-4 non-conference win Tuesday night in its final regular-season home game of the year.

In the final games of the 2009 season Piedmont split a doubleheader with visiting Methodist this afternoon at Loudermilk Field. In the opener the Monarchs took the 9-7 decision while the Lions rallied to take the finale 7-6.
