Senior outfielder Robey Smalley went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and senior pitcher David Van Geluwe pitched 5.0 scoreless innings to propel the Washington and Lee baseball team to a 4-2 victory over Southern Virginia on Wednesday at Cap'n Dick Smith field. SVU loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth, but junior Danny Devereux (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) struck out Daniels for the final out to tally his second save of the season. Devereux pitched the final 1.2 innings of the contest, striking out two. He improved his W&L career saves record to 15. First-year pitcher Jonathan Soto took the loss for the Knights to fall to 1-1. He went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs with one punch out.

Mary Hardin-Baylor used a five-run fifth inning to take control of game two on the way to a 12-7 victory to salvage a doubleheader split with Schreiner Thursday in Belton. The Mountaineers won game one 6-5. UMHB erased a one-run deficit with that five-run explosion and never looked back on the way to a 12-7 game two victory.

A nine-run first inning, including a grand slam by sophomore Richard Brereton, propelled Emory to a 13-1 victory over crosstown rival Oglethorpe on Tuesday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta. Brereton finished the day with a team-high three hits, going 3-for-5 with four RBI. Classmate Christopher Stern continued his sizzling start to the season, extending his hitting streak to six games with a 2-for-5 effort while driving in three runs. Seniors Bubby Terp, Nick Chambers, junior Thomas Baumgartner freshman Jack Rubenstein added multi-hit performances on the afternoon as Emory as team scored 13 runs on 16 hits.

Trey Rampy threw six scoreless innings, striking out five Panthers, as Berry earned their first win of the season 7-1 over No. 10 LaGrange on Tuesday afternoon. Berry jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the contest and added two runs in the third, three in the fifth and their final run in the seventh inning. La Grange added their run in the ninth. In the outing, Berry combined for 10 hits and no errors, and LaGrange added six hits, while committing three errors. The Vikings now sit at 1-1, while LaGrange moves to 5-3.

Austin got off to a strong start in 2018, topping Dallas Christian 6-4 on Thursday evening at Baker Field in the first game of the season for the 'Roos. Chase Almaguer picked up the win in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings with a strikeout, while Collin Maynard earned the save after throwing a scoreless ninth. James Arguello finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Brett Taff went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Texas Lutheran is off to a 7-0 start, best since 2007 after rolling to a 16-4 win Tuesday night against Mary Hardin-Baylor. and dropping Hardin-Simmons 7-2 on Thursday. At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field Tuesday, the Bulldogs scored in every inning but the fifth and the seventh and collected 15 hits. Riley Schaefer and Matthew Lemon each had three hits. Lemon scored four runs and drove in three, and Schaefer scored three runs and drove in two. Schaefer had a double and a triple. Lemon also tripled. On Thursday at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, the Bulldogs broke open a 3-2 game with four runs in their final two at-bats against Hardin-Simmons.

Christian Cooper's first RBI of the year proved to be the game winner as the Millsaps Majors defeated Piedmont 5-4 on Monday.
Millsaps athletics photo

Millsaps trailed visiting Piedmont for nearly the entire game Monday afternoon, but the Majors came through when it mattered however, as freshman Christian Cooper gave Millsaps the 5-4 win on a walk-off single. This win evens up the Majors record at 2-2 on the young season. Piedmont falls to 1-3 overall.Down to their last half inning Millsaps loaded the bases in the bottom of the 9th. With one out Cooper hit a chopper near the third base line. He beat it out for an infield single, which allowed Woodall to score. The Lion third baseman made an errant throw on the play which allowed Callaway to score from second, and give the Majors their first walk-off win of the 2018 season.

Centenary (La.) senior Kaleb Kirk may have allowed his first run of the season, but that did not stop him from inching closer to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference history. Kirk went seven innings and allowed just one earned run on seven hits while striking out seven as Centenary beat LeTourneau 4-1 Thursday night, at Shehee Stadium. Kirk (3-0) notched his 26th career win, which moved him into 10th place in that category in conference history.

BK Stancil had three hits and scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning as visiting Averett defeated Guilford, 6-5, at McBane Field on Wednesday. Stancil hit 3-5 and had three RBI for the Cougars. Teammate Dallas Smith was 3-4, had two RBI, two stolen and was the winning pitcher for Averett. Josh Shepherd went 2-4 with a double to lead Guilford's offense. Mitchell Stumpo tossed the final two frames for the Quakers and took the loss.

The three-day, four-game trip to Oregon began with a win, and it ended with a win for  Puget Sound as the Loggers return to campus after beating George Fox, 9-1, Monday afternoon. Puget Sound starting pitcher Michael Warnick hurled seven scoreless innings and struck out five to earn his first win of the season. In addition to benefiting from Warnick's brilliance, the Loggers (2-2) benefited from seven George Fox (6-2) errors. Mason Quinlan and Ryan Moyes both hit 3-for-4 for Puget Sound. Moyes clubbed his first home run of the season in the eighth inning, clearing the fence in left-center.

Howard Payne took two from the University of Dallas on their home field on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets scored double-digit runs in both contests at Don Shepard Park. After winning 13-2 in seven innings to start the afternoon, Howard Payne continued with the hot bats, scoring six runs in the first. As Dallas chopped away, night came in the fifth inning to end the Crusaders comebackl giving the home team a 10-8 victory.

Maryville earned their third consecutive win to begin the season after a late rally lifted the Scots past Centre 3-2 in Danville, Kentucky on Tuesday evening. Centre rallied to tie the game late. The Scots' bullpen could not hold the lead after a bases loaded wild pitch and walk tied the game 2-2 in the eighth. Maryville's Mike Homan walked with one out in the ninth. He advanced to second on a stolen base and then to third on an infield error. With pinch hitter Eric Hart at the plate, Homan trotted home with the eventual game winner after the Centre pitcher was called for a balk.
