The 2012 Division III baseball season went one day longer, but the long streak without a repeat champion is done as Marietta defeated Wheaton (Mass.) 7-2 on Wednesday in Grand Chute, Wis.

Aaron Hopper went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Bryan Gregorich had went 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs in support of Brian Gasser, who bounced back from a mediocre start against St. Thomas on Sunday. He allowed two runs and eight hits in eight innings, striking out six to get the win.

Wheaton (Mass.) lost to Marietta on Tuesday, and again on Wednesday, losing to Marietta for the second time in as many title game appearances.

Marietta started the day by eliminating St. Thomas 5-0 for the right to challenge the Lyons.
