WEST DIVISION
HITTER OF THE WEEK
Joseph Villegas, OF, So., Mary Hardin-Baylor
Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore outfielder Joseph Villegas (Manchaca, TX / Hays HS) fueled the Cru’s 4-0 start to the season by batting .474 with two home runs, two triples and two doubles. He also had eight RBI, scored eight runs, walked twice and was 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Adam Garcia, RHP, Sr., Howard Payne
Howard Payne senior right-hander Adam Garcia (Charlotte, TX / CHS) tossed 6 innings of scoreless relief to help the Yellow Jackets nab a 4-3 win over Southwestern in their home opener. Garcia allowed just two hits, walked one batter and struck out seven as he picked up the win.
EAST DIVISION
HITTER OF THE WEEK
Juston Festervand, 3B, Jr., Texas-Dallas
Texas-Dallas junior third baseman Juston Festervand (Spring, TX / Concordia HS) started the season by batting .529 with four home runs – a pair of two-homer games in a doubleheader sweep of Hendrix – and 15 RBI as the Comets went 3-1. Six of Festervand’s nine hits went for extra bases. He scored eight times and walked once.

Brett Holland, RHP, Jr., Texas-Tyler
Texas-Tyler junior right-hander Brett Holland (Lindale, TX / LHS) picked up the win against Sul Ross State by tossing a complete-game with 14 strikeouts – including fanning the final nine batters of the game. Holland surrendered just two hits and didn’t walk a batter over the seven frames. Only one run scored and it was unearned.

HITTERS: Concordia Texas SS Bryan Jacobs batted .400 with a home run and two walks as the Tornados went 2-1. . . . Howard Payne C Jose Sierra went 2-for-4 and drove in two of the Yellow Jackets’ four runs in a win over Southwestern. . . . East Texas Baptist OF Jared Gage batted .667 over two wins, including a homer that started a rally when the Tigers were down 8-2 in the seventh. . . . Texas-Tyler C Jeremy Harding batted .500 with a homer and two walks as the Patriots went 2-0. . . . Texas-Dallas OF Jared Smith hit for the cycle in the Comets’ season-opening win over Southwestern.
