McMurry's Voorhees is ASC's Home Run, RBI King
Mar 02, 2008
Press Release posted by American Southwest Conference Permalink
MARSHALL, TX -- For some, one milestone would be enough for one day. However, McMurry senior Brent Voorhees not only took down the American Southwest Conference's all-time home run record Saturday (March 1), he also set the record for most RBI in a career during McMurry's split with East Texas Baptist.

Voorhees entered the season four home runs shy of the record and 17 RBI off the all time mark. Entering this weekend's three-game set, Voorhees had two homers and 11 RBI. He didn't homer or drive in a run in Friday's 10-3 win over the Tigers. However, in the opening game of the doubleheader Saturday, he hit a pair of two-run homers to tie and then break David White's previous record of 38 home runs set from 2001-2004 for Concordia-Austin. He also added a two-run double and finished with six RBI to tie the ASC's all-time record of 167 also held by White.

In the second game Saturday, it didn't take long before Voorhees drove home Derek David in the third inning to take sole possession of the record. Voorhees added career homer No. 40, another two-run shot, and finished the game with three RBI.

Game one Saturday marked just the second time of Voorhees' career that he hit more than one homer in a game. His six RBI was the second highest total of his career. He had a seven RBI game his freshman season in 2005. His career total through Saturday is 169, which also passed White's mark of 167.
