BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

WEST DIVISION
HITTER OF THE WEEK
Marcus Volz, OF, Jr., Mary Hardin-Baylor
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior outfielder Marcus Volz (Katy, TX / Cinco Ranch HS) batted .692 over four games with a home run and three doubles, including hitting .818 and recording all multi-hit games in a conference series sweep of Sul Ross State. The ASC’s current doubles leader drove in three runs, scored four times and was 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts on the week to lead the nationally-ranked Cru.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
R.B. Garza, RHP, Jr., Mary Hardin-Baylor
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior right-hander R.B. Garza (Katy, TX / Cinco Ranch HS) tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout to lead the nationally-ranked Cru to a 1-0 win over Sul Ross State in the ASC opener for both teams. Garza struck out five batters and walked just one over the seven-inning game. He faced just two over the minimum.
EAST DIVISION
HITTER OF THE WEEK
Brad Broussard, 3B, So., Ozarks
Ozarks sophomore third baseman Brad Broussard (Seguin, TX / Navarro HS) went 11-for-16 with one home run, three doubles and 13 RBI to lead the Eagles to a 5-0 week and their first ever national ranking. Broussard also scored 10 runs, walked once and recorded a steal on his only attempt. He had at least two hits in each of the games in Ozarks’ ASC sweep of East Texas Baptist.

Curt Dixon, RHP, Sr., Ozarks
Ozarks senior right-hander Curt Dixon (McAlester, OK / MHS) set a school record and tied the ASC mark by striking out 14 batters in a league win over East Texas Baptist. Dixon forced a groundout to open the game, then struck out 11 straight hitters. He scattered just four hits in the feat that had been done in the ASC just seven times, most recently by Mary Hardin-Baylor’s R.B. Garza against Sul Ross State last season. His performance also helped the Eagles land their first nationally ranking.

HITTERS: Concordia Texas 2B Justin Beasley went 6-for-8 with two homers in two wins against Texas Lutheran. . . . Hardin-Simmons C J.T. Armstrong went 7-for-10 with three doubles over four games. . . . Howard Payne 1B Blake Shaffer batted .545 in a series win over Schreiner. . . Louisiana College 1B Tyler Bray drove in seven key runs in a series sweep of Texas-Dallas, including hitting a homer in Game 2 to force extra innings. . . . Texas-Tyler SS Kendall Fox batted .583 with a home over a 4-0 week. . . . Mississippi College OF Brannon Walls hit .429 in a sweep on the road against LeTourneau. . . . Texas-Dallas OF Jared Smith batted .462 with five RBI over three losses.
PITCHERS: Hardin-Simmons RHP Kyle Barton remained unscored upon on the season by tossing 6 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. . . . Mississippi College RHP Jonathan Russell threw a complete-game shutout with just three hits allowed in a win against LeTourneau. . . . Texas-Tyler RHP Blake Booher tossed a two-hit shutout in a victory against Austin College. . . . Louisiana College RHP Craig Naquin got the win against Texas-Dallas, strikeout out eight over seven innings.
