Press Release posted by American Southwest Conference Permalink
***Live Statistics, Audio Available for All Games***

ABILENE, TX – The championship round of the 2008 American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship Tournament Series will be held May 2-4 (Friday-Sunday) at Walt Driggers Field on the campus of McMurry University.

Playing for the conference championship and a berth into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship along with host McMurry (26-17) will be Concordia University Texas (28-17), University of Texas at Tyler (35-7) and Mississippi College (24-17).

All games will be available to follow through live statistics and audio. All links can be found on the ASC’s website (http://www.ascsports.org/) and the official championship round website (http://athletics.mcm.edu//Sports/baseball/2008/08ascbaseballtourney.asp)

To advance to the double elimination tournament, the four squads had to win best-of-three series last weekend. McMurry outlasted Louisiana College in three, Concordia Texas toppled University of the Ozarks in three, Texas-Tyler swept Hardin-Simmons University and MC also needed just two games to eliminate the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. All four victorious clubs were playing at home.

McMurry, the runner-up last season, will be going for its first ASC title since 2004 and fourth overall. CTX’s only league title came in 2002, while MC’s was the following year. Texas-Tyler is in its first season eligible for postseason play after serving the last four years as a NCAA provisional member.

NOTES:
• Ticket Prices: $5 for adults, $3 for students, children and seniors (65+); each ticket is a day-pass and will provide admission to all games on that day only.
• The hosting rights for the Championship Round rotate each year between each division’s top remaining seed.
• Live statistics and live audio broadcasts will be available for all games (see below for links)
