Gwynedd-Mercy captures second-straight PnAC Title on Sunday

BOYERTOWN, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy made it a repeat, winning their fourth Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Baseball Title with a convincing 14-1 win over Centenary in the championship game Sunday afternoon.

Co-MVP’s Tim McMenamin and Dan Strack led the offensive attack, each hitting grand slams.

With the win, the Griffins (21-18) earn the PAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament with selections to made on Sunday May 11th.

McMenamin who made his first start on the mound this season, made it a good one, limiting the Cyclones to one run on three hits in six innings while fanning six.

Centenary scored their run in the top of the first, getting an RBI double from Jared Grant.

From there Gwynedd continued its torrid offense, notching double-digit runs for the second-straight game.

McMenamin, who finished with 6 RBI’s going 3-for-3, put the Griffins (21-18) on the board in the bottom of the frame with a sac fly, scoring Mark Mattes.

In the third, back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles from Scott Carroll, McMenamin, and Nick DiEnno were part of a four-run frame. McMenamin would score from third on Mike Albert’s sac fly helping GM take a 5-1 lead.

After the Griffins loaded the bases in the fourth, Strack would clear them with a grand slam to right for a commanding 9-1 lead.

McMenamin would add the second grand slam of the day, this time in the fifth with an opposite field shot to right. He would add an RBI single in the seventh.

Carroll and Mattes each finished with three hits and two stolen bases apiece.

Notes: McMenamin went 6-for-10 with 12 RBI’s, three homers, and eight runs scored in the tournament...Strack was 5-for-11 with 11 RBI’s, two home runs and a double…The Griffins took all five meetings between the Cyclones this season...McMenamin tied the single-season RBI mark, stands at 61 on the year.
