Texas-Tyler's Holland Named West Regional Pitcher of the Year

KENOSHA, Wis. – Senior Brett Holland of The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was named West Region Pitcher of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Wednesday.
The Lindale-native finished third in the nation in total strikeouts on the season with 112 and 12th in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings with 11.93.
Holland ended his senior season with a 9-5 record and a 3.24 ERA. His nine victories on the year were tied for the 14th most by any Division III pitcher.
Wednesday’s accolade is just the latest in a series of postseason awards for Holland. For his work during the 2009 season, Holland has been named American Southwest Conference East Division Pitcher of the Year, a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine second-team All-America selection, a D3baseball.com All-America honorable mention selection, an ABCA All-West Region second-team selection, an All-ASC East first-team selection, an Academic All-ASC honoree and was a member of the ASC Baseball Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team.
