Press Release posted by University of Dallas Permalink
The UD baseball team defeated the University of North Texas Mean Green twice in their annual fall games on Saturday, October 24. Tough pitching and base running propelled the Crusaders as they won the two contests, 6-2 and 6-0.

Junior righthander Phillip Carkhuff (Marietta, GA/Lovett H.S.) threw seven strong innings in the first game allowing only one earned run on five hits while striking out eight for the complete game win. Offensively, sophomore catcher Delano Ponce (Albuquerque Academy) went 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI, and two stolen bases while senior first basemen Martin Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X H.S.) went 2 for 3 with two stolen bases as well. Senior second baseman Sean McSheffery (Woodridge, IL/Downers Grove North H.S.) chipped in a double, scored twice, and also stole two bases. Freshman shortstop Trevor Allred (Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage H.S.) and junior third baseman David Rettinger (San Antonio, TX/Central Catholic H.S.) each provided an RBI.

In the nine inning affair, junior pitcher Austin Cooper (Afton, OK/Afton H.S.) pitched eight shutout innings allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Rettinger, Allred, and freshman center fielder Adam Farris (Flower Mound, TX/Flower Mound H.S.) each contributed two hits in the shutout. The running Crusaders also combined for 10 stolen bases in the lopsided win. Farris stole four, Lopez three, McSheffery three, Rettinger two, and Allred two.

UD will start their regular season on Saturday, February 6th when they open up a three game series at home against Hendrix College. The start time for Saturday’s seven inning doubleheader is 12:00pm. The two teams then faceoff in a nine inning game at 2:00pm.
