Texas-Tyler's Ring, Sherman Grab ASC Weekly Honors

More news about: Texas-Tyler

RICHARDSON, Texas -- After sweeps of Castleton State and Howard Payne last week, the UT Tyler baseball team swept the American Southwest Conference's weekly baseball awards as David Ring was named East Division Hitter of the Week and Chad Sherman earned Pitcher of the Week honors, the league office announced today.

A junior outfielder from San Diego, Calif., Ring went 12-for-16 and had two triples, a home run, a double and eight RBIs to fuel a 5-0 week for the Patriots.

Ring hit for the cycle with six RBIs in a 14-1 victory over Castelton, becoming only the second UT Tyler player ever to do so. On the week that included a sweep of Howard Payne, Ring also scored six runs, walked once and stole a base.

For the season, Ring is hitting a team-high .500 with ten RBIs and nine runs scored.

Sherman, a senior right-hander from Bullard, Texas, earned the ASC's top pitcher award for the second time this season after tossing a complete-game, three hit shutout with 11 strikeouts in a 6-0 win over Howard Payne. Sherman walked just one batter and didn't allow an extra-base hit over the seven frames.

Sherman is 3-0 on the season - all complete game performances - and has struck out 30 while giving up just two earned runs in 21 innings pitched.

The No. 20 Patriots are 11-0 to start the season and hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at Texas Lutheran.
