No. 7 Baseball Patriots Begin ASC Play Friday

More news about: Texas-Tyler

TYLER -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team, which moved up to No. 7 in the latest D3Baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 Poll, will open American Southwest Conference East Division play against East Texas Baptist this weekend at Irwin Field.

The series will begin with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

The Patriots (15-0) are coming off a 7-6 win over Hendrix on Tuesday.

In that game, Jake Ashley, Jordon Vierra and Hayden Chick each had two RBIs for the Patriots.

UT Tyler put together consecutive two-run innings to go up 7-4 after seven innings, but Hendrix (5-8) cut the deficit to a run with two runs in the eighth and put the potential tying run on base with one out in the ninth.

But Parker Sheets, who pitched four innings of relief in his win over Texas Lutheran last Saturday, got Kyle Raskin to line into a double play to earn the save.

Chance Williams worked five innings out of the bullpen to get the win. He allowed two runs on six hits in relief of starter Jack Barkley.
