RICHARDSON -- UT Tyler's Matt Schimpf was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game, five-hit win against East Texas Baptist last weekend.
The award marks the second time this season that Schimpf, who currently has the fifth best ERA in the league (1.87), has earned the league's weekly honor.
The senior right-hander from Arlington, Texas, pitched the game without a walk to earn his third win of the season.
Schimpf, who struck out two batters, needed only 93 pitches to get through the nine innings. He did not allow an unearned run in the 3-1 game.
Schimpf and No. 7 Patriots hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at Ozarks.
