TYLER -- On a day that saw them rise to No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division III Top 25 Poll - their highest ranking ever - the UT Tyler baseball team tied team records with 27 runs and 29 hits in a 27-2 blowout of Jarvis Christian on Tuesday night at Irwin Field.
The Patriots (22-0) began their offensive onslaught as Justin Juneau, Nick Clifton, T.J. Martin and Jake Ashley picked up RBIs in the bottom of the first inning.
Clifton and Jordan Vierra recorded RBI singles in the second inning and the Patriots led 8-0 after two frames.
Juneau plated four of UT Tyler's five runs in the third inning with a grand slam to right field. Juneau also knocked in his fifth run of the game in the fourth inning.
Jarvis Christian scored their only two runs of the game in the top of the sixth inning. A throwing error by pitcher Cody Jones with a runner one first allowed the Bulldog's first run to score. Jeremy Lockett's single later in the inning plated their final run.
The Patriots scored five runs in the bottom of the inning, in large part due to a grand slam by Dustin Wyble. UT Tyler's bullpen closed the door on Jarvis Christian in the seventh and eighth innings, and the game was ended.
Brian Shore earned the win, pitching the first three innings of the ballgame. He allowed only two hits and recorded two strikeouts. Chance Williams, Jones and E.H. Almand combined for one hit and two unearned runs in five innings of relief.
Juneau finished the game with four hits in four at-bats and six RBIs. Martin batted 4-for-4 as well and knocked in four runs.
The Patriots take their NCAA Division III best 22-0 record to UT-Dallas this weekend to continue American Southwest Conference play.
