2017 CCIW Preseason Coaches' Poll

Feb. 8, 2017 –
Coming off back-to-back College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) regular season championships, the North Central College baseball team was selected to repeat yet again in 2017, according to the annual coaches' poll released Wednesday.

North Central received 61 points and seven first-place votes in the poll, finishing the 2016 campaign with an overall record of 31-12, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

Illinois Wesleyan University and Augustana College tied for second in the poll with 51 points, with the Titans receiving the remaining two first-place votes.  Carthage College was selected fourth receiving 44 points, followed by Wheaton College (41 points), North Park University (25), Millikin University (21), Elmhurst College (19) and Carroll University (11).

Voting is done by the CCIW's head baseball coaches. Each coach votes for the eight other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (eight points for first, seven for second, etc.). Coaches do not vote for their own teams.

The Cardinals, ranked 25th in the Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason Top 25 Poll, begin the 2017 campaign on Saturday, March 11 with a pair of games at Itchy Jones Stadium in Carbondale, Ill., taking on Hope College at 1 p.m., followed by Blackburn College at 7 p.m.
