NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Junior relief pitcher Ryan Votypka (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) of the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team has been named to the D3Baseball.com All-New York Region Second Team, announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The right-hander, who was also named First Team All-SUNYAC this season, becomes the first All-New York Region winner since Matt Carr was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-New York Third Team in 2012.
Votypka was dominate this year, finishing with a 4-1 mark and a 1.67 ERA in 32 1/3 innings. The junior appeared in 11 games and started two, including a complete game shutout at Plattsburgh on April 18. Votypka tallied a team-high three saves and struck-out a team-best 30 while enjoying an opponent batting average of .162.
Votypka's .162 opponent batting average is the fourth-lowest in single-season history while his 1.67 ERA is the eighth-lowest single-season mark.
For his career, Votypka has six saves, ranking second-most all-time, trailing Josh Gutes (2003-06; eight).
The right-hander helped New Paltz earn the program's first playoff berth since 2013 under first-year head coach Arlan Freeman.
