A quartet of Manchester University student-athletes was mentioned in the Players to Watch section of Collegiate Baseball News' Division III preview released this week.
Senior pitcher Brandon Eck (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and outfielder Eric Knepper (Bremen, Ind.) joined junior outfielder Tyler LaFollette (Warsaw, Ind.) and sophomore designated hitter/catcher Joe Gallatin (Muncie, Ind.) on the list.
Eck, a second-team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection in 2017, was among the region's most consistent starters last spring with four wins, a 3.91 earned run average, a save and 41 strikeouts over 73 and two-thirds innings. Knepper, also a second-team all-HCAC honoree a year ago, has proven a power source for Coach Rick Espeset's program with 16 home runs, 17 doubles and 70 runs-batted-in among his career statistics. LaFollette, joining his fellow upperclassman teammate as part of an active MU outfield crew, gained his second all-league award last year after hitting .307 with five home runs, seven doubles and driving in 33. Gallatin had an excellent freshman slate, earning the conference's top first-year player award due to hitting .350 with 46 RBI, seven home runs and nine doubles among his offensive totals.
