    It was a historic day at Augie Schmidt Field on Friday, as Carthage swept a two-game series against Illinois Tech, 13-3 and 15-0. The win in game one on was #900 for head coach Augie Schmidt IV, the 13th ever to accomplish the feat.

    The Carthage College baseball team (19-22, 11-10 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) saw its 2016 season come to an end on Friday afternoon, May 13 with a 7-6 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University (23-18, 13-8 CCIW) in the second round of the CCIW Baseball Tournament at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field in Moline, Ill. Illinois Wesleyan scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth after Carthage scored five times in the top of the inning to tie the game, 6-6.

Millikin won the first game, 7-3, but Carthage took the nightcap by an 8-0 margin.
