Babson, which has won five straight games, improves to 6-1 on the year, while Hope falls to 1-4.
GAME ONE: Babson 7, Hope 5
Senior Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with three RBI and sophomore Sean Harrington (Walpole, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI for the Green and White. Junior Brian McHale (Ramsey, N.J.) extended his hitting streak to 17 games and scored a pair of runs, while classmate Michael Genaro (Greenwich, Mass.) improved to 2-0 after giving up three earned runs on eight hits to go along with three strikeouts in five innings.
Junior Connor Jackson (Rockford, Mich.) took the loss for the Flying Dutch after allowing three runs on two hits and three walks in just 0.2 innings. First-year Evan Maday (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and juniors Jordon Fairchild (Muskegon, Mich.) and Nick Lepore (Clinton Township, Mich.) all finished with two hits in the loss.
The Green and White batted around in the first and took a 3-0 lead thanks to two-out RBI singles by Harrington and Webber. McHale scored on a passed ball in the second and senior Ryan Arena (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) plated sophomore Alex DiMartino (Mahwah, N.J.) with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 5-2.
Hope got a sacrifice fly from senior Danny Carrasco (Grandville, Mich.) and a two-out RBI single from first-year Cal Barrett (Chelsea, Mich.) in the last of the fifth to cut its deficit to 5-4. Webber pushed the Babson lead back to three with a two-out, two-run single to right in the top of the seventh.
The Flying Dutch loaded the bases and got within two thanks to a pair of singles and two hit batsmen with no one out in its final at-bat. Beavers' senior Matt Cuneo (Ashland, Mass.) was able to work out of the jam though, as he recorded back-to-back strikeouts and got a ground out to shortstop to earn his first save of the season.
GAME TWO: Babson 5, Hope 0
Sophomore Edward Lehr (Byram Township, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Arena added two hits and drove in a run as the Green and White completed the sweep in game two. Senior David Lennon (Windermere, Fla.) added an RBI double and sophomore Aidan Scott (Glastonbury, Conn) walked twice and scored three times in the victory.
Senior Teddy Carey (Upton, Mass.) struck out eight and allowed just two hits in four shutout innings, while classmate Drew Petillo(Bridgewater, N.J.) came out of the bullpen to earn his first career save with three innings of one-hit ball.
Babson took a 2-0 lead on Lehr's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the second. Hope had its best chance to get on the board in the top of the third, but Carey came up with back-to-back strikeouts and then got a ground out to third to escape the frame after walking the bases loaded.
Scott walked to leadoff the last of the fourth and later scored on a single to center by junior Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.) to make it 3-0. Gill came around on Arena's base hit to left later in the inning, and Lennon tacked on another insurance run with his two-out double to right in the bottom of the fifth.
Petillo retired the first eight batters he faced and then recorded his second strikeout of the night with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to finish off the shutout.
Junior Nick Holt (Muskegon, Mich.) shouldered the loss for the Flying Dutch after allowing two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
