Union, N.J. (4/13/18) – The Kean University baseball team won the see-saw battle in the bottom of the ninth to sweep the season series against Montclair State University by the final of 9-8 on Friday.

Frank LoGiudice led the Cougars (14-15, 5-3 NJAC) with a 3-for-5 day with two runs scored and an RBI.  Nick Martinez led the Red Hawks (16-10, 4-4 NJAC) with three hits and four RBI.

Leading 4-3 after four innings of play, the Red Hawks plated two with back-to-back doubles from Martinez and Andrew Ollwerther, pushing ahead, 6-3.

Kean responded by taking their first lead of the day with a four spot in the seventh.  Nick Polizzano registered an RBI single and Frank Urso drove in two with a triple.  Jimi Fitzgerald rounded out the inning with an RBI infield hit as the Cougars held a 7-6 lead.

After a groundout to start the ninth, MSU loaded the bases with two walks and a single from pinch-hitter Kyle Missry.  A strikeout put Kean within one out of ending the game, but the Red Hawks tied things up with a bases-loaded walk and took the lead on an infield single that hit off of third base.

A walk by Zach Joe and singles from Tim Huxen and Steve Santigate loaded the bases for Kean in the bottom of the ninth with one out.  Pinch-hitter Ryan Ruziecki was then hit-by-a-pitch to knot the game at eight-all and LoGiudice lofted a sacrifice fly to an almost empty center field on the shift for what would be the game-winning RBI.

Polizzano and Urso each had two hits and two RBI.

Kyle Gaeb recorded the win for Kean while Austin Minton suffered the loss for MSU.

Kean returns to action on Saturday when they travel to William Paterson University for doubleheader action beginning at 11:30 a.m.
