McCarthy Named SCIAC Pitcher of the Week

LOS ANGELESNolan McCarthy was named the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday after an outstanding start on opening day.

McCarthy, a junior from Portland, Ore., threw hard and threw strikes in a dominant 8-0 win over Puget Sound, going six innings with 11 strikeouts, no earned runs and just two walks. 

"Nolan threw a great game," Oxy head coach Luke Wetmore said. "I'm especially pleased with his composure on the mound, the way he made pitches and picked up his teammates after a couple miscues.

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 start to the season with a second win over Puget Sound and a victory of Willamette on Sunday.

McCarthy is one of two Oxy baseball players that got well-served recognition for great performances. Jack Brancheau was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after hitting going 5 for 8 with a home run, a double, four RBIs, five runs scored and six walks.

Oxy is back in action against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this weekend.
