LOS ANGELES – The Ithaca College baseball team posted its most impressive offensive onslaught in the early 2019 season on Wednesday afternoon at Occidental College, as the Bombers defeated the Tigers, 18-5, on 25 hits, which included three home runs. IC is now 3-2 on the season, while Occidental drops to 12-4.

After two scoreless innings of play, Ithaca erupted for 16 runs over the next four innings to secure the lopsided victory.

In the third inning, Ithaca plated five runs on six hits. IC's first run scored on an RBI single from senior Andrew Bailey, which pushed home sophomore Garrett Callaghan. With two outs, senior Adam Gallagher laced a single to center two score two more runs – Bailey and senior Webb Little – and then senior Garrett Snyder doubled in Gallagher to take a 4-0 lead. In the next at bat, sophomore Jack Lynch looped a base hit to left to allow Snyder to score.

The Bombers tacked on five more runs in the fourth inning thanks to a grand slam from senior Sam Little and a solo shot from Gallagher in back-to-back at bats. Leading up to the blast from S. Little, senior Cam Fuoti walked, senior Webb Little singled and Bailey drew a free pass to load the bases for S. Little. A few pitches later, Gallagher drilled his third homer of the season to make the score 10-0.

Two more runs scored in the fifth for IC as Bailey drove in Fuoti with a sacrifice fly and then Gallagher plated W. Little with a single to center to extend the difference to 12-0.

In the sixth inning, four more runs scored for the Bombers. W. Little drove in the first run with a base hit to push home Fuoti, and then a two-run double from Gallagher accounted for a 15-0 disparity. On the next at bat, Snyder singled in Gallagher for a 16-0 lead.

Occidental got on the board in the bottom of the seventh with a bases loaded walk, but the Bombers capped off the offensive display in the ninth inning with a two-run from Fuoti with senior Jackson Smith on base.

The Tigers would score four more runs in the bottom half of the ninth to account for the final score of 18-5.

Gallagher went 4-for-6 with six RBI and two runs scored. W. Little was a perfect 5-for-5 at the dish with two runs and one RBI, while S. Little drove in four in a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Snyder also recorded four hits in five at bats with two RBI, while Fuoti was 2-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI.

Callaghan scored three times and went 3-for-4, while Smith went 2-for-2 and scored once.

Junior Tom Cosentino earned the victory in six shutout innings, as he surrendered five hits and stuck out one. Junior Charlie Hammel, freshman Bill Willett and senior Matt Eiel combined to throw the final three innings of relief.

Ithaca will head to CalTech tomorrow 3 p.m. (PST) matchup.
