Drew scored eight runs in the final two innings to complete a three-game sweep of The University of Scranton with a 13-9 victory at Volpe Field on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers trailed 8-5 entering the eighth inning before rallying to improve to 14-10 on the season and 6-3 in Landmark Conference play.
Sophomore Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) had three hits, two home runs, and drove in five runs to lead the Royals, who fell to 10-12 on the spring and 6-5 in conference games.
Drew scored a pair of runs in the top of the first on Sunday, but Scranton plated the game's next four runs to hold a 4-2 advantage at the end of four innings.
The Rangers tied it up by scoring twice in the visitor's fifth and took a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth. The Royals swung back in front with three runs in the home sixth before making it an 8-5 game with a run in the seventh inning.
The top of the eighth would prove to be the difference on the afternoon as Drew scored five runs on four hits and a walk to claim a 10-8 lead.
Harding's second run of the afternoon in the home eighth brought Scranton to within a run, but the Rangers tacked on three runs on four hits and two errors by the Royals to open up the four-run cushion which would stand as the final score.
Junior Kevin Haag (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining/Bridgton Academy (Maine)) had a pair of doubles for Scranton while sophomore Kevin Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and freshman Chris Wagner (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) also had two hits in the loss for the Royals.
Senior starting pitcher Pat Rohr (Audubon, Pa./Devon Prep) took a no-decision after allowing four runs on five hits through 4.2 innings while striking out two batters. The Royals used six relievers over the final 5.1 innings as the Scranton bullpen was touched for nine runs, eight of which were earned, on 10 hits.
Drew held a 15-13 advantage in hits for the game while both teams committed two errors.
Scranton will visit DeSales on Tuesday evening for a non-conference game starting at 6 p.m. in Center Valley, Pa.
