May 23, 2019 – released its 2019 All-Region teams on Thursday, as North Central College was represented with three selections on the first team, while sophomore catcher Rob Marinec was named Central Region Player of the Year, the third-straight year a Cardinal has earned the honor.
The All-Region nod for Marinec is the second in as many seasons, named to the second team in 2018 while also earning the region's Rookie of the Year honors last season. Marinec becomes the third player in program history to earn Central Region Player of the Year by, joining Michael Mateja '19 who earned the award in each of 2017 and 2018.
Marinec hit .344 on the season, leading the Cardinals with 11 homeruns, four triples, 53 runs batted in, 116 total bases and a .644 slugging percentage.  He also ranked second on the team with 36 walks, including seven of the intentional variety, while swiping 15-of-17 stolen base attempts.  Opposing runners attempted only 27 stolen bases on Marinec all season and were thrown out 12 times, good for a 44% caught stealing percentage.
Jeremy Quade earns his first career All-Region recognition as the senior center fielder turned in a final season for the ages, making four-straight NCAA Division III Regional appearances while playing more games than anyone in the history of the program (182).  He led the team in multiple offensive categories this season including batting average (.366), runs scored (53), hits (67), walks (41), stolen bases (25) and on-base percentage (.496).
This season also saw the career hits record fall after standing for nearly 31 seasons, as Quade passed North Central Hall of Famer Ken Ritter '88 on the all-time list with 247 career base hits.  Quade also holds the career records for runs scored (196), stolen bases (73) and at-bats (760).
Also named to the first team for the first time after earning CCIW Pitcher of the Year honors is sophomore starting pitcher Charlie Klemm.  Klemm tied the program's single-season wins record, finishing the season an unblemished 9-0 on the mound, tying Gary Whitman who set the record previously in 1984.
His 84 strikeouts this season rank second on the single-season list, while leading the staff with 69.2 innings pitched.  Over his 11 starts on the season, Klemm posted a 2.20 earned run average, while opposing batters hit just .212 against him, allowing only eight extra-base hits all year.
Marinec and Klemm were the only two underclassmen named to the first team, while North Central has now been represented on the All-Region teams in seven of the last eight years, since the installment of the teams in 2012.  All three players are now eligible for the All-America team, released next Wednesday, May 29.
